'The Origin of Double-Gauss type lens'.
This is the one which I eagerly say 'the Origin of Origin' ., Alvan.G.Clark
lens.
The condition of the one is far from the perfect condition, I am happy if you feel a part of the feeling of Alvan.G.Clark lens.
Lens Impression
In 1889, Alvan G Clark ,the State of Massachusetts, USA aquired patent
for 'new and useful Improvements in Photographic lens'.
This is the Invention which became the Origin of All Double-Gauss type
lenses.
A.G.Clark himself should have never dreamt about it because the sales of
this lens by Bausch & Lomb was not good at all. His idea to combine
a convex type of concavo-convex crown glass lens and a concave type of
concavo-convex flint glass to obtain 'a flat field, the absence of chromatic
and spherical aberration' is very unique, however the composition which
has 8 glass surface might have been suffered by flare. This problem also
suffered the Double-Gauss type design for more than 50 years.
But I am not sure if Dr.Rudolph got the idea of 'Planar' without A.G.Clark's
conception.
This particular one unfortunately is imperfect condition without front
elements. To get example photos, I added one convex lens in front to make
it a kind of triplet to shorten the focal length..
